Ethiopians condemn arrest of strike organisers that caused ‘flight disruption’

Several Ethiopians have condemned the arrest of the organisers of an industrial action by the Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs) in the country.

On Monday, state affiliated Fana BC reported that Federal Police Commission had detained nine individuals on suspicion of attempting to disrupt international flights and coordinating a strike that began last week.

‘‘The suspects were attempting to disrupt international flights and prevent planes from landing at the airport,’‘ Tekora Aifokru, Deputy Commissioner General said.

Ethiopia-Eritrea peace: PM Abiy actualized rhetoric of Meles, Desalegn

Current Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed in offering to make peace with neighbouring Eritrea had done what his predecessors, the late Meles Zenawi and Hailemariam Desalegn had done before.

Going on to actualize the offer was the extra leg that Abiy Ahmed had taken and which till date has won him significant praise at home, within the Horn of Africa region and across the world.

Photos: Exiled Oromia regional president returns to fanfare

The list of exiled Ethiopians returning home continues to increase with each passing day. The latest high-profile returnee being former president of Oromia regional state.

State-run Fana broadcasting corporate on Monday reported the return of Juneidi Sado who headed the Oromia region – Ethiopia’s largest – as chief administrator. There was a big crowd of his supporters gathered at the airport to welcome him back.

Ethiopia’s ex-rebel group Ginbot 7 returns from Eritrea base

A famed Ethiopian opposition group, Patriotic Ginbot 7, have officially returned to the country from their base in neighbouring Eritrea.

State-run Fana broadcasting corporate reported that the group crossed into Ethiopia via the town of Humera on Saturday.

Humera is located in the northern Tigray region that shares a long border with Eritrea. Photos shared by Fana showed ‘ex-fighters’ in trucks waving Ethiopian and Eritrean flags.
