Omega-3 Benefits and What’s the Difference between Krill Oil and Fish Oil
0

Omega-3 is a long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid, and it performs many good things for the body and the brain. Known as an “essential” fatty acid, meaning the body must take it in from food sources, omega-3 is important to human metabolism. It exists in nature in two forms, one derived from land plants and two derived from marine sources. In the body, omega-3 is highly concentrated in the brain; it is critical to the formation and maintenance of nerve cell membranes.

Health Benefits of Omega 3

Heart Disease Reduction

People who have high fish consumption have lower risks of heart attacks and strokes. Omega 3s are a form of HDL or good cholesterol that helps the heart function better.

Helps in Mental Conditions

The good fats from food help run basic and crucial functions of the body. This includes brain health; people suffering from psychiatric disorders often have an omega three deficiency.  Omega-3 improves mental conditions by reducing mood swings and relapses of psychosis.

Cancer Prevention

People who have diets that contain large amounts of omega-3 are 55 % less likely to face cancer. It greatly reduces the risk of breast and colon cancer.

Helps in Liver Function

Omega-3 fatty acids help retain good cholesterol and flush out inflammation-causing toxins from the liver to keep it healthy and performing.

Helps in Skin Condition

One of the secrets to the youthful and hydrated skin is omega-3 phospholipids, which are found naturally in the cell wall structure. The more deficient you are in omega-3, the drier your skin will be.Omega-3 also helps the skin to absorb healthy nutrients and expel waste products that are harmful, resulting in healthy-looking, glowing skin.

Difference between Krill Oil and Fish Oil

Even though fish oil and krill oil are good sources of omega 3 fatty acids, they aren’t the same. Their first difference is the origin. While fish oil is extracted or eaten in fish, krill oil is extracted from animals that are similar to shrimps.

Krill Oil can be observed faster due to the fact that DHA and EPA in krill oil are connected to phospholipids which are easily dissolved in water, hence the fast absorption. Krill oil is absorbed in 2 to 3 hours.

Fish Oil has a higher concentration of Omega 3 fatty acids then Krill Oil. Fish Oil isn’t easily dissolved in water. It is needed between 48 and 72 hours for our body to absorb fish oil.

Which Oil Is Better?

Judging by the fast absorption, krill oil might have better structure. However, there are not enough scientific researches that would confirm all its benefits.

Fish oil has numerous benefits that were scientifically proven. It is safe for everyone and even pregnant women. On the other hand, krill oil is relatively unexplored and in case you do want to give it a try, you should consult your doctor first.

Krill oil and fish oil are great sources of Omega 3 fatty acids that are essential for our health. However, krill oil is not explored enough and additional studies have to be done to confirm its possible health benefits.
